Mt Kearsarge Indian Museum where the Wabanaki Storytelling Event will take place

Warner, NH- The Center for the Arts invites the public to the October HuManities Monday program,  Gluskabe - The Magical, Powerful Culture Hero Central to Wabanaki Storytelling, at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum. Learn from Anne Jennison, a traditional Native American storyteller and historian of European and Abenaki heritage, for an evening of storytelling, appreciation of Mother Nature and discovery.

Anne Jennison will introduce Gluskabe, the central figure in an extensive body of lesson stories that are integral to the Wabanaki cultures of New Hampshire and the Northeast. Gluskabe resembles both Creator and human alike. Possessing magical abilities, he stands as tall as the white pine trees, and is a companion to the Alnobak, the human beings. Enriched with multiple embedded meanings, Gluskabe stories unveil the fundamental spiritual and ethical principles of the Wabanaki peoples. They impart traditional Wabanaki understandings of living in harmony and equilibrium with Mother Earth, as well as the potential consequences of disrupting this balance. Each time a Gluskabe story is recounted, new insights emerge.

Anne will bring with her 30 years of storytelling experience. She is the current chair of the NH Commission on Native American Affairs, a member of the the Indigenous NH Collaborative Collective, an affiliate faculty member for the University of New Hampshire Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Minor, and a co-creator of the "People of the Dawnland" interpretive exhibit about the Abenaki/Wabanaki peoples at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH.

The Center for the Arts is honored to be a part of this remarkable evening at such an important location for the community. The Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum is situated on the ancestral lands of the Abenaki people and continues to teach stewardship of the land. We encourage everyone to visit the museum to explore their exhibits and participate in their workshops and other special events. Event Details:
