Center for the Arts with the Newbury Public Library and The John Hay Literary Society Host Poetry Reception in Celebration of Poetry Month Newbury, NH - On Friday, April 5th, 2024, the Center for the Arts Friday Friday Event was hosted in partnership with the Newbury Public Library and The John Hay Literary Society. These organizations joined hands to host a reception honoring the winners of their poetry contest, THE BEAUTY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE. Held at the Newbury Town Offices from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, the event served as a celebratory culmination of Poetry Month festivities.
The Poetry Reception, showcased the creative talents of poets across various age groups.
Esteemed poet, translator, and professor Ewa Chrusciel had the distinguished honor of judging the submissions and selecting the winners.
Attendees at the reception had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the evocative verses penned by the winning poets from all three youth categories, as well as adult participants. The event provided a platform for these talented individuals to share their unique perspectives on the beauty of New Hampshire through the art of poetry.
We were delighted to see such a remarkable display of creativity and talent from our community poets, and appreciate the years that the Newbury Public Library and John Hay Poets have put this together, said Dena Stahlheber, Executive Director.
The reception welcomed guests from all walks of life including a sign language interpreter, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where poetry enthusiasts and community members came together to appreciate the literary arts. Complementing the evenings festivities, refreshments were served, adding to the convivial ambiance of the event.
Admission to the Poetry Reception was free of charge, extending a warm invitation to all individuals eager to partake in the celebration of poetry and local talent.
