Barry Fougere

Painter

I can’t enter a new city without exploring its museums & galleries and I can’t enter a new environment without hiking its paths to absorb its atmosphere & energy. I am an inveterate consumer of imagery and constantly snapping photos to convert immediate impressions into memories.

There can be a documentary nature to this, but the artist wants to inject more of him or herself into the image to capture its essence – how it is composed, how light and shadow interact, how intense the coloration, what the dynamic is, what the story is.

I have found that painting can add additional layers of richness and expression, with infinite possibilities to break down, rearrange, reinterpret, and magnify – or even create abstractly from completely new cloth.

While I have majored in daily life in more technical and businessy things, the visual arts have always been my life-long minor. After taking the brush up again, I don’t plan to ever put it back down.
