How do I get from studio to studio?

"Self-guided" means you provide your own transportation (driving, biking, or carpooling with friends). Use our Interactive Google Map on this page to easily route directions between locations on your smartphone.

Where is Open Studios held?

Open Studios takes place across the Lake Sunapee Region (including New London, Sunapee, Bradford, and surrounding towns). Because this is a self-guided tour, you design your own itinerary and visit studios in whatever order you choose!

What about parking and directional signs?

Look for bright red Open Studios lawn signs and arrows placed along main roads and at studio entrances to confirm you’re in the right spot! Every location has free, designated parking nearby (driveways, street parking, or nearby public lots).

Is the event accessible?

Many participating studios are ground-level and fully accessible, while some home-based workshops may have steps or gravel driveways. Check individual artist profile cards on this page for specific accessibility badges, or reach out to us in advance if you have specific mobility questions.

Do I need a ticket or registration?

No! Open Studios is 100% free and open to the public. You don't need to sign up or reserve a spot in advance—just show up during event hours (10 AM–4 PM) and enjoy.

Can I purchase artwork directly from the artists?

Yes! While there is zero pressure to buy, most artists will have original works, prints, or handcrafted goods available for purchase. Cash, cards, and digital payments vary by artist.

Are restrooms available at the studios?

Restrooms vary by location. Public facilities are available at community hubs like 428 Main St. in New London, and many studio hosts offer guest facilities. We recommend making a quick pit stop at public sites or local cafes along your route!

Are children and families welcome?

Absolutely! Open Studios is a great event for all ages. We just ask that children are supervised, as studios contain real tools, fragile artwork, and specialized equipment.

The tour is a rain-or-shine event! All studios are indoors (or have covered areas for demos). Outdoor demos may shift inside if weather turns wet.

Can I bring my pet/dog?

Please leave pets at home (service animals excluded). Many studios are inside private homes or active workshops where space is limited and materials can be delicate.

Come enjoy some warm spiced cider, meet Carol, and talk art in her home gallery and upstairs studio. Her original impressionistic artwork explores themes of hope, kindness, joy, love, and resilience, with both original works and professional Giclée prints available for purchase.

During Open Studios

See a series of five paintings in different stages of completion, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how a painting develops from beginning to end, including its layers and stages of completion.

Carol will also offer a 30-minute painting demonstration on Sunday at 1 PM.

Nestled on the shore of Lake Sunapee, Hemlock Harbor Studio is home to Lucy Mueller's colorful and imaginative mixed-media practice. Her work includes paintings, limited-edition prints, sculptural creatures, and practical greeting cards and notebooks created from colorful remnants of her artwork.

During Open Studios

Lucy will transform pieces of artwork from years past into new creations, selecting and combining cut elements to make collaged greeting cards. Visitors will be encouraged to experiment with different combinations and develop their own collages.

Join Sara Rae in her home studio to explore a collection of contemporary impressionist oil paintings, including completed original works and paintings currently in progress on the easel. Visitors are welcome to browse, ask questions about Sara's techniques, and experience the texture and character of oil paint up close.

During Open Studios

Sara will be actively working on a painting throughout the weekend, either indoors or outdoors depending on the weather, offering visitors a chance to see her creative process firsthand.

Heidi Lorenz will also join Sara with a selection of her oil paintings.

About the Studio

Soleil Studio Arts is the shared creative space of Jean Twombly and Peter Tourin, bringing together two distinctive approaches to working with glass and wood.

Jean has been creating glass art since the mid-1990s, using color, light, curve, and dimension to create contemporary stained glass designs. Peter Tourin is internationally known for his Renaissance stringed instruments and now creates one-of-a-kind pieces for the home using ecologically sourced exotic woods and intricate marquetry.

During Open Studios

Join Jean for an interactive stained glass demonstration, “Create a Simple Sun Catcher,” from 12–1:30 PM on October 3 and October 4.

Participants will learn the basic process of cutting, foiling, soldering, and finishing a simple sun catcher.

About the Studio

Tom Barber is a painter and writer whose career began as an award-winning illustrator of science fiction and fantasy paperback book jackets in the 1970s. In 1980, business and personal turmoil led him west to the mountains of Arizona, where he settled in the ghost town of Jerome and set up his easel in the operating room of the old abandoned hospital at the top of town—now the Jerome Grand Hotel.

There, surrounded by the history and legends of the old hospital, Tom painted, partied, and even mined for gold before eventually returning to the East Coast in 1990. Today, he continues to paint in oils and write.

Visit Tom's studio in Andover to explore his oil paintings and learn more about the experiences and places that have shaped his creative life.
