Creating Together, Thanking Together

New London, NH: Art connects, uplifts, and creates shared experiences that strengthen community bonds. This year, the Center for the Arts (CFA) has had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the impact that art can have across the Lake Sunapee Region, with a new space and a growing range of programs aimed at bringing people together through creative expression. These achievements would not have been possible without the generosity of those who believe in the importance of accessible art and the power it has to create community.

A sincere thank you goes to New London Inn, this year’s Sponsor of the Year. Their unwavering support has played an essential role in CFA’s success – whether by hosting vibrant microgallery strolls, offering space for meetings, or housing CFA’s former office. Their involvement has enhanced the important role that local businesses play in cultivating a thriving arts community.

CFA also acknowledges its dedicated sponsors who share the vision of a vibrant, connected community that is enriched by the arts. Special recognition goes to LaValley Building Supply, Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, NorthCape Design, O’Halloran Group, Chippers/Davey Construction and many more outstanding businesses. These partners have shown incredible generosity, helping make art more accessible and impactful for all. Their contributions are a confirmation of the power of collaboration, and CFA is deeply grateful for their support.

This year has been full of creative energy, bringing people together through a variety of exciting programs. Almost $10,000 in awards were given to 16 students from the Lake Sunapee Region to support their artistic journeys in music, dance, visual arts, literature, and theater through the CFA Scholarship Program. The celebration of their achievements took place at the July First Friday Bandstand Concert, where community members gathered to recognize the next generation of artists and creative thinkers.

The Microgallery program continued to spotlight local artists, offering a unique opportunity to showcase work across New London. 2024 brought an incredible variety of artistic voices, from beautiful photography and dynamic paintings to emerging and business card artists, inviting everyone to experience the creative spirit of our region. Likewise, the Literary Guild’s Teen Writing Contest highlighted some incredible young writers, whose award-winning works were shared and celebrated throughout the community.

The Performance Art Guild’s First Friday Art Experiences brought energy and creativity to the Lake Sunapee Region throughout this year. From the lively Contradance to the festive sounds of the Upper Valley Ringers’ holiday concert, these events offered something for everyone. Venues like Whipple Hall buzzed with music, art, and performances, giving the community a chance to come together and enjoy the arts. It was a fun, accessible way to connect and celebrate everything that makes local art so special.

For those interested in deepening their craft, the Visual Arts Guild offered monthly Art Critiques where member artists could exchange feedback and grow together. The Art Café continued as a thriving hub of collaboration, where creators could support each other in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Similarly, the Photography Café brought together photography enthusiasts to learn, share tips, and explore new techniques, allowing for an expanding community of artists.

Music played a significant role in this year’s growing programming with Group Piano Lessons for grades 2-5, offering young learners the chance to discover their musical talents in a collaborative setting. HuManities Monday continued to engage the community in discussions that explored art, culture, and society, while Arts Week connected the town of Sunapee to a wide range of new and familiar faces to interact with various arts experience from an exhibit with over 50 local artists to special art demonstrations and activities.

CFA’s Ladies Night event, Arts in the Harbor, and Open Studios tours further enriched the local art scene, giving artists and community members opportunities to connect and celebrate creativity together. Whether attending an event or simply appreciating the artwork displayed in public spaces, everyone played a part in making these moments happen.

A big thank you goes out to all those who have contributed—donors, partners, volunteers, artists, staff, and community members. Whether through your time, support, or presence at an event, you’ve helped make this year’s creative achievements possible. We look forward to continuing this journey together, creating more opportunities to connect, inspire, and celebrate the power of art in our community.
