Materials are the same for Alla Prima, Plein Air, and Layer & Glaze Classes
Think lightweight and portable! You may bring your own supplies. Everything aside from your easel and canvas should be able to fit in a backpack! There are a variety of stores for materials.

EASELS:
You may purchase your own French easel, half easel, or Pochade box for
working outside if desired.
The Center for the Arts also has 5 heavier wooden easels and 6 metal light-
weight tripod easels to borrow.
PAINTS:
Suggested pigments from Todd’s palette are listed below but not required. A
limited palette is recommended, with primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) and
white. If you have your own oil paints, specific brands are not required.
• Titanium White
• Cadmium Yellow
• Yellow Ochre
• Alizeran Crimson
• Cadmium Red
• Ultramarine Blue
• Cobalt or Cerulean Blue
• Burnt Sienna
• Sap Green
• Ivory Black (optional)
Note that Winsor & Newton brand has water-mixable oil paints that dry
slightly faster and does not require the use of Gamblin, Liquin or linseed
oil! Water-mixable paints are easily found on Cheap Joe’s Art Stuf with
frequent discounts.
TOOLS / MATERIALS:
• Wooden, glass, or plastic palette
• Palette knife
• Medium sized canvas or gessoed wooden panel, size range from 6”x8” to
11”x24”
• Brushes you own or are comfortable using, suggested assortment of round
and flat brushes of varying size. (Make sure your brushes are not hard or
crusty!)
• Pencil, eraser, and small sketchbook
• Adjustable viewfinder, homemade or store-bought
• Liquin / Gamsol / linseed oil and medium-sized glass jar*
• *Not required for water-mixable paints
Please dress accordingly for various weather conditions! Depending on the
weather, you may want to bring:
• Hat and sunglasses
• Sunblock and/or bug spray
• Water bottle or other drinks
• Umbrella
• Portable folding chair if you are uncomfortable standing
